That’s why we not only employ a team of highly specialised bariatric doctors with many years of experience, but also apply the gold-standard of laparoscopic tools and equipment. We source our medical equipment from world-renowned manufacturers: Aesculap and Johnson & Johnson.  If in the incredibly rare event that something unexpected should occur, our team of experts at our Intermediate Care Facilityset up exclusively for Weight Doctors BARIATRICS®—will efficiently and effectively take care of any complications. With the Weight Doctors, you are always in the best hands.

At the Weight Doctors: laparoscopic technology for most significant weight loss results

How does Weight Doctors set the best foundation for safe and effective weight loss? Our  weight loss surgery utilities laparoscopic (“keyhole”) technology, thereby remaining minimally invasive, whilst being highly effective. Fine surgical instruments are inserted through three tiny punctures in the abdominal area. Using this laparoscopic technology, we  reduce the size of the stomach following the specific method of the chosen procedure. Unlike the endoscopic technology of the Weight Doctors SLEEVE®, which reduces the stomach from the inside of the stomach, Weight Doctors BARIATRICS® reduces the stomach from the outside

Our team of specialised and experienced doctors perform the minimally invasive  weight loss surgery safely, effectively, and within a relatively short period of time. Following the surgery, you will have a short inpatient stay of up to 3 nights in one of our exclusive private clinics, receiving the best care from our qualified nursing staff.

Weight Doctors BARIATRICS® procedures leave almost no scarring on the abdominal area, making the gastric surgery practically invisible to the human eye. All that remain are 3 small blemishes equivalent to the size of a little birthmark. Depending on the chosen procedure, this can result in a reduction of stomach volume by up to 90%. This is the maximum stomach reduction possible, using current medical technologies.

Depending on the chosen procedure and with your commitment, it is possible to lose total excess weight within 6 months following treatment. Our patients witness something even more remarkable than just the physical changes from weight loss: Weight Doctors BARIATRICS® technologies help our patients enjoy significant improvement to their general health and quality of life. Common excess weight-related comorbidities can be significantly improved or, are even gone for good. Our patients often share their renewed zest for life, an enjoyment with their daily routine and new hobbies. And with the new-found feeling of self-appreciation and self-confidence, our patients share an excitement in becoming more socially active and making new social connections.

What makes Weight Doctors BARIATRICS® so special and unique as a minimally invasive bariatric surgery?

The most important facts about Weight Doctors BARIATRICS® at a glance

Weight Doctors BARIATRICS® is helping address the largest global pandemic

For a rapidly growing number of people, being overweight or obese is a struggle of a lifetime. For many, minimally invasive weight loss surgery is the answer to finally living the life they have always wanted.  However, people who are overweight or obese have a significantly higher risk of developing serious and life-threatening medical conditions. In many cases, this can lead to serious impairments in physical and mental health – with dramatic consequences. Research shows that millions of people have a significantly reduced life expectancy because they are overweight.

Leading the list of common co-morbidities associated with obesity are type 2 diabetes  dyslipidemia (high blood cholesterol), hypertension (high blood pressure) and fatty liver disease. Hypertension is directly correlated to cardiovascular disease, seeing increased risk of heart attack and stroke. Other conditions such as respiratory problems, sleep disorders or joint problems  are also commonly experienced with obesity.

The good news: things can be turned around. Significant and sustainable weight loss can drastically reduce the risk of developing secondary diseases. In some cases, weight loss can even reverse these conditions completely. And another thing: you’re not alone in this. There are many people around you who are equally affected by this: take strength in the power of community to see a chance for change. Obesity and excess weight is a growing pandemic which is why science and practice are working feverishly to find a solution. Weight Doctors BARIATRICS® is our answer to positively impact this global challenge and help our patients in a pragmatic and lifechanging way.

    The Weight Doctors BARIATRICS® procedures

    Gastric Bypass: For maximum restriction

The gastric bypass as part of the Weight Doctors BARIATRICS® program is the most restrictive gastric reduction of bariatric procedures. Based on modern laparoscopic keyhole surgery it is performed using one of two techniques:

    1. The Roux-en-Y gastric bypass: considered the gold standard among gastric bypass operations  or,
    2. The Omega-Loop bypass (OLB): also known as the ‘mini gastric bypass,’ (although it is by no means mini), it is just as restrictive and invasive as Roux-en-Y.

The gastric bypass is performed using  minimallyinvasive laparoscopy. The bypass is performed from the outside of the abdomen; here a few small “keyhole” punctures are made to the abdominal area, through which the finest surgical instruments are inserted. Through these keyhole punctures the doctor performs the  surgery under visual control.

To begin, a small stomach pouch is formed from the upper part of the stomach using stapling instruments. This small stomach pouch is detached from the remainder of the stomach (the larger section of the stomach). The remainder of the stomach (i.e. residual stomach) is no longer directly involved in digestion. In the second step, the small intestine is separated into two sections. One end of the small intestine is brought up to the newly-formed stomach pouch and connected to it. The other end of the small intestine, which is still connected to the larger part of the stomach – the residual stomach – is reconnected to the gastrointestinal tract. This creates a passage for the digestive juices. The rest of the stomach is returned to its original function and participates in digestion a little later.

To simplify: the small intestine is connected to the “new” small  stomach pouch. Food is ingested into the small stomach pouch and then moves directly into the small intestine. Therefore, most of the food consumed bypasses the stomach and part of the small intestine (up to 90% of ingested food), so that both food intake and calorie intake are significantly reduced.

Due to the new dominant stomach pouch being significantly smaller, patients will feel satiety from much smaller volumes of food. We also know that subsequent changes to gut hormones such as ghrelin, as a consequence of surgery, lead to a much-reduced appetite.

The gastric bypass procedure takes approximately 120 minutes.

    Gastric Sleeve: Fastest regeneration

The gastric sleeve by Weight Doctors BARIATRICS® is the least invasive of bariatric surgeries and is based on modern laparoscopic keyhole surgery. The gastric sleeve is based on the LSG (Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy) technology, the leading technology among surgical experts worldwide.

Applying the LSG technology the procedure begins with a laparoscopy. A few small punctures are made from the outside of the abdomen, through which tiny surgical instruments are inserted. The surgeon then forms a tubular-shaped stomach; reducing the stomach’s capacity, from top to bottom.

Unlike the endoscopic suturing technology of the Weight Doctors SLEEVE®, with the gastric sleeve the stomach is modified from the outside, i.e., in the abdominal cavity. With the help of surgical stapling instruments, the stomach is cut along its entire vertical length and a large part of the stomach is removed. What remains is a narrow, tubular-shaped stomach of approximately 150-200 ml in volume. This is about 8085% less than the original stomach volume. The separated larger part of the stomach is safely removed from the body. The procedure takes approximately 60-90 minutes.

Who is suitable for minimally invasive weight loss surgery with the help of Weight Doctors BARIATRICS®?

Weight Doctors BARIATRICS® is recommended for individuals with BMI of 45, and in individual cases between a BMI of 40 and 45. Individuals with a BMI less than 40 may be better suited to the Weight Doctors SLEEVE® program; gentle and effective weight loss procedures using endoscopic technology. Nevertheless, a BMI of 45 often means that an adult man is approximately 50 kg overweight, and a female adult approximately 40 kg overweight: in both cases an intervention is highly recommended. As with all treatments for obesity, a successful intervention will always be dependent on the individual’s commitment to positive habits across nutrition, exercise, their personal motivation and overall behaviours.

Before  any intervention can be considered by the Weight Doctors it is necessary to ensure that conventional weight loss attempts have been exhausted. This means that classic weight loss diets, medication and exercise therapies have not led to lasting success. Please contact us and we will clarify whether minimally-invasive  weight loss surgery is a  suitable option for you.
