Initial consultation and orientation

Your treatment begins with an in-depth consultation with an experienced plastic surgeon at Weight Doctors®. During this session, your medical history and aesthetic goals will be discussed, and the surgeon will assess your skin’s tone, elasticity, and the areas suitable for liposuction.

Individual treatment plan

Based on this consultation, a tailored and personalised treatment plan will be created. You will also be informed about various liposuction techniques, such as tumescent liposuction, ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL), laser-assisted liposuction (LAL) or vibration-assisted liposuction (VAL), and the risks and benefits associated with each. Together with your surgeon, you will choose the technique most suitable for your goals.

Preparation for the operation & information

Ahead of your procedure, specific pre-operative instructions will be provided. This may include:

• Blood testing to confirm general health
• Adjusting medications, dietary guidelines, and lifestyle habits (e.g. avoiding alcohol/nicotine)
• Mental preparation for the recovery phase and personally planning how you will receive support in the those first few days following the procedure

The day of the operation

You’ll arrive at the clinic fasted and have a final in-person chat with your treating surgeon to review the plan. Liposuction is typically performed under general anesthesia, local anesthesia, or twilight sedation depending on the treatment area and extent.

Performing liposuction

Tiny incisions (only a few mm long) are made in discreet locations, and the chosen technique is used to remove the fat:

• Tumescent liposuction – local anesthesia and saline/adrenaline are injected to loosen fat and reduce bleeding
• Cannula-based liposuction – fat is suctioned out through a thin tube
• Ultrasound or laser-assisted methods – sometimes used for additional fat breakdown and skin tightening

After the operation

Compression garments will be applied immediately after surgery to reduce swelling and support healing. You will be monitored in the clinic for a few hours following the procedure until you have recovered well. Most patients go home the same day (especially when twilight/local anesthesia is used).

Aftercare and healing process

Our 360-degree care doesn’t stop after surgery. At the Weight Doctors®, your recovery is closely monitored with follow-up appointments and tailored aftercare instructions:

• Wound care – keep incision sites clean and dry
• Physical rest – avoid intense activity initially, but light walking is encouraged to help with blood circulation and healing
• Gradual return to daily life – low-impact activity can resume within one week; however, more intense activities should wait between 4–6 weeks (per doctor’s recommendations)

Recovery and long-term results

Healing takes time. While initial swelling improves within weeks, your final body contours become visible between 3 to 6 months after your surgery as your skin adapts to its new shape.
